Dear friends, colleagues!

Since our early childhood we're used to the fact that we live in the Volga delta, where unique variety of flora and fauna is an amazing combination of Life. We're so used to it, that sometimes we don’t even notice this splendor. We equally do not notice the danger threatening our nature. Unfortunately, we're more concerned with social, economic, political and other problems.
Journalism is the mirror of all the processes going on in our society. Who is to blame that today this mirror doesn't reflect environmental aspect of our homeland?

"Green wave" of the late 80-s of the last century has broke up, environmental meetings have sunk into oblivion as well as interesting ecological articles and programmes, but the main thing is that there is no more interest to the theme of environment. We're still proud of our nature and think it is inexhaustible. But as a matter of fact it is high time to raise the alarm.

If you share my opinion, I invite you to take part in an enlightener project of the Astrakhan Regional Public Organization "Bonjour mass-media club". The name of the project is "The Volga and the Caspian as seen by journalists". This competition project was approved by Caspian Environmental Programme and received the grant of Global environmental facility, established by UN. "Bonjour" became one of the two organizations in Russia, who received such grants. All in all, over 70 applications were considered.

"Bonjour" has three aims to conducting this competition. First of all, to attract attention of people to the problems of preserving the unique nature of the Volga’s delta and the Northern Caspian by means of most effective way – through mass-media. Secondly, to promote discussions about ecology in press on a higher professional level, with a wide degree of publicity, courage and responsibility. Thirdly, to achieve efficiency of ecological journalism, to strengthen its influence on decision-makers.

We are journalists, and this means that in comparison with other people of Astrakhan we have more power and opportunity to raise this alarm. Don’t stand aside; join us! I sincerely wish you good luck.
